The logo of Institut Tazkia is based on a diamond shape that reflects the ideal economic situation, where most of the population fills the middle class, led by a few wealthy classes, and only a fraction of the less fortunate classes.

The diamond shape consists of two Arabic letters of ta (ت). The first ta means a growth based on purity. The second Ta represents Tarbiyah, a regeneration process of quality growth in order to strengthen the implementation of the Islamic economic system that symbolizes the solution to achieve the ideal economic conditions.

The blue colour reflects the intelligence, stability, solidarity of Islam (ukhuwwah) as well as robust integrity. The Orange Colour Reflects the Innovation, Dynamic, & Bright Future of Islamic Economics.

The corporate culture of Tazkia is summarized by the acronyms of Tazkia himself:

The condition of the world economy today has encouraged the birth of Islamic finance institutions managed in various countries. In Indonesia, this is marked by the birth of sharia financial institutions such as Bank Muamalat Indoesia, Bank Syariah Mandiri, Bank Danamon Syariah, Bank Bukopin Syariah, Bank BNI Syariah, Bank IFI Syariah, Bank Jabar Syariah, Bank BRI Syariah, Bank BTN Syariah, Bank Syariah Mega Indonesia, Bank Permata Syariah, Bank BII Syariah, Syariah BPR, Takaful Insurance, Great Eastern Syariah Division, Asuransi Syariah Al-Mubarakah, Amil Zakat Institution which has been supported by the birth of Zakat Law, Sharia Capital Market, BMT and Sharia Cooperative.

However, the development of Islamic finance institutions and other Islamic-managed businesses has not been supported by the availability of adequate human resources, in terms of managers, entrepreneurs, and academics who consistently study and develop a comprehensive integrative Islamic economy.

These conditions encourage Tazkia Cendekia Foundation to open educational programs that can meet the needs of human resources in question.

Towards the economic crisis in the last quarter of 1997, as a preacher of Islamic economics, H. Muhammad Syafii Antonio M.Ec – among his friends known as Pak Haji – invites friends who are committed to developing the Islamic economy for establish a container for the efforts that have been pioneered so far more focused and directed. The friends included Mr. Agus Haryadi (Pak Agus) and Mr. Amin Musa (Pak Amin) who participated in charge of Takaful Insurance company and happened to be inactive at the company.

To strengthen the container, Mr. Agus invites Br. Mukhamad Yasid is one of the lecturers in IKOPIN who has been studying and practicing practitioners in the Logical Framework Approach (LFA) method as one of the methods to design an organization’s strategy, both profit oriented and non-profit. The team is supported by Sanusi who has long been in the computer and publishing world and Endang Suhendra an insurance practitioner.

As a result of several meetings, PT. Tazkia Wahana Utama. The company was founded by Pak Haji, Pak Agus and Pak Amin. For the day-to-day implementation, Br Mukhamad Yasid to become Director. The company is engaged in Islamic finance and management services (Islamic Finance and Management Services). The company is mainly engaged in the implementation of training programs on the implementation of Islamic economics both in the financial sector and Islamic management and seeks to become agents and networks of Islamic financial institutions such as Takaful Insurance and Bank Muamalat Indonesia.

By capitalizing on Pak Haji’s character and relationship due to his lectures on Islamic economics, in December 1997, PT Tazkia Wahana Utama got the first client, PT Mayasari Bakti. The services provided are strategic planning of Mayasari Group. The preparation of this strategic plan was carried out through LFA workshop attended by all shareholders (family of Mr. Haji Mahpud) and board of directors. The workshop was held at Hotel Horison Ancol.

After facilitating the Mayasari Group, PT Tazkia Wahana Utama got the next client to set up the foundation’s system and procedures to be applied to the foundations that have received assistance from Mr. Tachril Sapiie (Mr. Aling) one of the directors of Bimantara Group. In addition to the preparation of the system, TAZKIA also helps these foundations to establish BMTs and provides entrepreneurial training for orphans who receive compensation from Mr. Aling.

The next client is the Government of West Java Province Tk I. By Mr. Nuryana as the governor of West Java, Tazkia was asked to socialize the Islamic economy and its application opportunities in West Java. One of the action programs to implement this system is the Pioneering and Preparation of Sharia Cooperative System and Procedures in several cities in West Java. In this phase, in the politics of Indonesia is a period of reform after the fall of the reign of the new order. In this era of reform, the government is actively encouraging and giving the widest possible freedom to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to help develop the economic potential of the people, whether in the form of education for small businesses or by involving NGOs to distribute government credit.

Not wanting to miss the situation and conditions, Tazkia tries to take part as one of the NGOs. For this reason Tazkia uses the foundation’s legal entity and no longer uses the company’s legal entity (PT Tazkia Wahana Utama). To emphasize that Tazkia is an NGO engaged in education and community development, the name Tazkia Institute was chosen

Based on discussions with the trainees as well as the directors of sharia banks and input from Bank Indonesia, it is concluded that in order to produce human resources in sharia banking in particular and Islamic economics in general, it is not enough to provide short-term training to banker. HR is needed is human resources that master the balance and depth both the theories of banking and conventional economics and banking and Islamic economics (syariah). HR with this qualification can only be born through undergraduate level education. On the basis of this need, Tazkia decided to establish Islamic High School of Tazkia by first establishing the Tazkia Cendekia Foundation.

Preparation of STEI Tazkia is conducted simultaneously with the activities of Tazkia Institute. Given this preparation requires a full time outpouring, then Mr. Haji commissioned Br. Mukhamad Yasid to handle the foundation and release the concerned from the duties as Director of the Tazkia Institute Program. At Tazkia Institute Br Mukhamad Yasid only acts as an Associate Partner together with other associate partners such as Pak Agus, Pak Indra, Mr. Arie Mooduto and Mr. Achmad Baraba. For the preparation of this school, the Foundation is strengthened with Pak Ikhwan (Ikhwan Abdin Basri), Pak Arif (Syamsul Arif) and Pak Inay (Inayatullah Hashim)

To help prepare for the establishment of Tazkia Islamic University College, in addition to conducting its main activities such as professional training and consulting, Tazkia Institute also holds various seminars and studies of Islamic economics. Seminars and studies conducted include:

1. Seminar & Workshop on Islamic Economics Education at Higher Education

In this seminar, experts from both inside and outside Indonesia are:

The seminar was attended by representatives from universities with faculty or courses related to economics, both public and private universities.

2. Sharia Banking Prospect Seminar In Perspective of Human Resources & Market

3. Economic Studies

This program is held in collaboration with the Institute of Community Service of the University of Indonesia (LPM-UI). The study of Economics took two classes followed by students and practitioners, each lasting for 3 months. Several alumni of this program have been accepted in Bank Syariah, even some of them who served as Director of Sharia Commercial Bank.
